PLINTH (OR WHAT IT FEELS LIKE FOR A GIRL)

Vignette Art Fair, Women’s Museum at Fair Park, Dallas, TX 2018

This installation, entitled ‘Plinth (or what it feels like for a girl)’ was exhibited at the Women’s Museum in Fair Park in the Vignette Art Fair in 2018. The source imagery came from 1950’s found photographs of girls performing traditional “girl” activities like jumping rope and hula-hooping. These acts which are marked by movement and speed are juxtaposed with the flattening of the image on the plinths. It is a play on the expectation and impossibility to be perfect, while also addressing the ‘pedestals’ that we all have in our lives.
